Urinary Tract Infections, Now Home-Diagnosed!
Publish Date : 9/10/2007 9:50:00 PM   Source : Fitness News Onlypunjab.com

Most home health test kits were originally designed to serve for medical practice in special clinics and laboratories, however, it has become common practice now to use such kits for personal investigation and have the results sent to a lab. What should a home health test kit for urinary tract infections include? First of all, there is a sterile urine collection recipient with special instructions about how to collect the sample. Only a sterile cup may be used and the test should be run on morning urine though there are no total restrictions about the samples taken the rest of the day.

Wipes are usually included in home health test kits for urinary infections as the genital area has to be perfectly clean before you collect the sample. The collection recipient is not meant for unique use; therefore if you intend to have other tests performed make sure to clean and rinse it carefully. Very often detergent or soap traces could compromise the results; furthermore, it needs to be completely dry as tap water usually contains disinfectants such as chlorine. The kit also includes several dipsticks to be introduced in the container. If you only have the sample collection type of kit, you don’t need dipsticks, you’ll simply collect some urine and send it to a laboratory for analysis.

The sample should be tested or collected in the provided recipient within no more than fifteen minutes after urination; doctors recommend that the cleanest sample is that in midstream, so, make a little effort and catch that one! Very often the urine sample could be compromised if the hygiene measures are not strictly followed; things like hand washing and avoiding any contact between the rim of the container and skin parts are general rule. Usually you’ll find useful advice on the kit package.

Home health test kits may give erroneous advice if you take antibiotics before running the test or in case you test urine that has not stayed in your bladder for more than four hours. Though result interpretation may be performed immediately with some tests, the laboratory analysis really remains the most reliable way to have a firm diagnosis. Until you have the final test results and you hear your doctor’s opinion, do not start any medical treatment on your own, as medical practice has often proved that not everything that appears like a urinary tract infection really is a urinary tract infection.
