There are different strings of the Mange Virus out there some of them can be very contagious to Humans and other animals. Until you know which version of Mange your dog has it is important to keep him secluded from the rest of the family.
Mange is caused by microscopic mites that will constantly bite your dog. An easy way to describe Mange is like Humans getting Scabies there are a lot of similarities. When the infected dog has Mange the living mites can lay 20 to 30 eggs. These eggs can hatch anywhere between 8 to 17 days.
The different symptoms of Mange are: Hair Loss-this can be a little or a lot, Itching and scratching-This usually only occurs in the affected areas, Red spots, Blisters, and Infection. There are different symptoms for every disease, condition and infection out there so it is important if you have any concerns or your dog is showing symptoms to seek out medical attention for your beloved family pet.
It is very important when you first spot symptoms of Mange to see a Veterinarian right away. As symptoms progress your dog will become worse with no treatment. One of the biggest concerns with mange is the secondary bacterial infection. Almost all animals with mange will get the secondary bacterial infection. This is caused when the animal is constantly scratching to get rid of the mites. Hair loss will also be a very noticeable factor for Mange. I have seen cases where people think because it is the Summer their dog is just shedding their coat, but the end result is a loss of a lot of their hair.
Eventually your dog will die if no treatment has been provided they can die from a secondary bacterial infection, dehydration, or just pure exhaustion. The secondary Bacterial Infection is usually the main source for the other possibilities, the infection can spread.
