Eat Right to Boost Your Energy
Publish Date : 9/17/2007 3:31:00 AM   Source : Fitness News Onlypunjab.com

What you eat and when you eat influences just how tired or invigorated you feel at the start and end of the day. So to keep your energy high, follow these simple tips in eating:

1) Eat breakfast with a balance of protein and carbohydrates. Carbohydrates are basic energy fuels, but too much, ironically, can make energy drop. Your digestive system is working overtime to break down too much carbohydrates, thus causing sluggishness. Why do you think too much bread or pasta makes you sleepy? Protein, though, is not the case. Protein in moderate amounts boost energy. So eat just the right amount of protein and carbohydrates. One serving of protein and one serving of carbohydrates is enough.

2) Eat a low-fat lunch with servings of protein and carbohydrates. This applies the same principle of breakfast. A good mix of protein and carbohydrates will keep you energized.

3) Eat healthy small meals and snacks throughout the day. Doing this gives you a steady supply of fuel to maintain your energy.

4) Drink at least eight glasses of water. Remember this, even as you are feeling stressed and beating a deadline. Your tiredness or fatigue may just be a result of dehydration.

5) Eat a small meal in the evening. As your digestive system is starting to rest during this period, do not overwhelm it with too much food. Again, taxing your digestive system will make you feel tired as well.

6) Cut down on sugar and caffeine. This may give you a temporary energy high, but in the long run they can cause fatigue and bring you down to energy levels lower than before you had your sugar or caffeine fix.

7) Minimize alcohol consumption. Cells are dehydrated and the nervous system is suppressed by alcohol. This causes problems in concentration and even fatigue.
