- 1. If you find that you sweat excessively and sometimes to the point where it is becoming embarrassing, perhaps you need to make a trip to your family physician or a dermatologist to determine if your condition is not normal. You may very well have a sweating disorder or condition called hyperhidrosis. It is important to get checked out and see if this is indeed a problem that you have so you can get it taken care of as soon as possible.
- 2. If you are sweating excessively and are a regular at the gym, be sure to bring two towels with you. One to use to wipe down the machines or benches after you have used them and one to use afterwards to shower. If you do not shower at the gym after your workout, bring the extra one just in case the first gets too soaked. Many gyms already have towels or a paper towel dispenser available. Take advantage of this. No matter how clean you think you are, believe me when I say that no one wants to use a weight machine or bench covered in sweat. Stop it before it stops you!
- 3. Always pack a fresh set of clothes. Because I have a problem I always have extra clothes in my car should the situation arise where I have been sweating too much and need to change. I always have a bag with extra shirts, under shirts, underwear, jeans and shorts. You never know when you might have to change.
- 4. Keep an antiperspirant or deodorant stick in your car. You never know when your deodorant will run out on you, and if you sweat like I do then most likely you will need to reapply every few hours.
- 5. Bring office slippers. If I keep my shoes on all day my feet sweat and my shoes get an awful smell to them. While I am sitting in my office there is no need to wear my shoes, so I kick them off and put a pair of slippers on. If you do this as well be sure to put them on before heading out to a meeting.
Trying to stop it before it starts is a tough task and I applaud your efforts. I am in the same battle on a daily basis, fighting along side of you. There is help available to you should this be your problem as well. I have outlined a few tips that have helped me to alleviate the stress that comes with excessive sweating.
