President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam will inaugurate the silver jubilee celebrations of the Institute of Rural Management, Anand, (IRMA) in Gujarat next week.
The president will inaugurate IRMA's silver jubilee symposium on "Governance in Development" to be held from Dec 14 to 19 in Anand, 70 km from here, sources at the institute told IANS.
The institute was established Dec 14, 1979, following the initiative of the National Dairy Development Board and with the active support of the central and state governments, the Swiss Development Co-operation and the erstwhile Indian Dairy Corporation.
The silver jubilee symposium will address issues related to governance through 15 workshops that will focus on globalisation, civil society, decentralisation, gender, natural resources, social services and infrastructure.
During his daylong trip next Tuesday, the president will also visit an exhibition organised by the Anand Agricultural University.
Following the efforts of V. Kurien, known as father of the white revolution in the country, IRMA was founded to develop professional managers to work for rural producers.
"IRMA, at 25, remains committed to developing professionals and preparing the youth for going down the less travelled road and join hands for the rural poor," said Kurien, chairman of IRMA board of directors.
