Celebrated filmmaker Sanjay Leela
Bhansali's much-hyped film "Black", which he says is an uplifting
tale on the triumph of the human spirit, is slated for a December
release.
The film stars Amitabh Bachchan and Rani Mukherji, who defy the
laws of nature to find happiness. Mukherji, known as the dark
horse of Bollywood, plays a deaf and sightless girl who with the
help of her teacher, played by Bachchan, fulfils her ambition of
being a world-known musician.
Bhansali said both Bachchan and Mukherji learnt the sign language
and put in a great amount of hard work for their roles. "Rani
learnt sign language for the film. She also studied deaf and
blind people. We have extracted performances so that it can reach
the audience. This is Amitabh's career best role. I am proud of
their performances," he said.
Bhansali, whose penchant for colourful and extravagant films is
known to one and all, has this time restricted himself to
extracting best performances from the lead actors. "In my earlier
films I have already used so many colours. So I felt I should do
something different, otherwise people will not recognise my work
anymore. So I wanted to make a film which is different, the title
is also very unusual and I am sure it will strike a chord with
the audiences," Bhansali told reporters in Mumbai.
Bhansali's earlier films "Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam" and "Devdas"
brought international acclaim to former Miss World Aishwarya Rai
and were runaway hits at the box office. (ANI)
