Brazilian striker Cristiano de Lima Jr. died Sunday after scoring his second goal and collapsing on the field during a club tournament.
The 25-year-old de Lima lost consciousness immediately after scoring in the 78th minute. Doctors at the venue attended to de Lima, and he was taken to a hospital, where he was declared "brought dead."
The cause of death was not immediately known.
"We have booked a case as in any case of unnatural death, but we don't suspect foul play," Bangalore's police commissioner, S. Mariswamy, told The Associated Press.
An autopsy report was expected Monday, said Dr. K.C. Satyaprakash of Hosmat Hospital.
The game continued after de Lima was taken from the field, and Dempo Sports Club beat Mohun Bagan 2-0 in the final of the Federation Cup tournament.
De Lima was playing his first season with Dempo and his second in India. He played for East Bengal, another top team, last year. Among the highest-paid foreigners playing for Indian clubs, de Lima was Dempo's top scorer in the Federation Cup.
