Tennessee Schools Engage, Inspire, and Instruct with Classroom Technology
Publish Date : 12/6/2004 2:42:00 PM   Source : Technology News Onlypunjab.com

Powell Valley Elementary School in Speedwell has an Interactive Electronic Whiteboard, Multimedia Projector, projection screen and computer in every single one of their 17 classrooms.

- Heritage High School students in Maryville produce and broadcast a weekly multimedia production shown on large screens in the school’s public areas.
- Heritage Middle School in Nashville is excited about their new SMART Electronic Whiteboard which they just got trained on.
- Giles County Schools have recently been provided Mitsubishi projectors for their classrooms, district-wide, and a number of ELMO visual presenters, too!
- The University of Tennessee and all of the Board of Regents colleges use the cutting edge audio visual technology which has proven to be so effective in education. K-12 and Higher Education schools, colleges and universities all across TN are using high-tech A/V equipment and interactive electronic teaching tools.

What do all of them have in common - besides the commitment to engage, inspire and instruct students with this technology? They come to Multi-Media Solutions (MMS) for their A/V technology!

Multi-Media Solutions Inc. is a major resource for A/V and instructional technology for Tennessee’s schools. “The Powell Valley Elementary School project was particularly gratifying- for an elementary school to be so committed to using multimedia technology in its curriculum, and to invest the resources to make that happen- that’s a shining example of Tennessee’s focus on improving student achievement. Many schools don’t have the budget to come close to that, but hopefully that situation will improve in the future. Meanwhile, we promise to help schools get the best value for their technology dollars.” Said Mike White, president of Multi-Media Solutions.

One way TN schools can acquire technology is through grants, and two such grants are from the SMARTer Kids Foundation, founded by SMART Technologies. These grants - which contribute up to 40% of the price of SMART interactive whiteboards, computer lab software, and NEC projectors – can only be fulfilled by an authorized reseller partner like Multi-Media Solutions. “These grants have made the difference for a lot of schools”, White added. “If you have $1000 to spend on a projector, you can get a $999 projector, or you can use that grant and get a more powerful $1400 projector.” White estimated. The grant money, which can contribute around 40% of the purchase price, can also be combined with other grants or fundraising proceeds.

Of the 136 active public school districts in TN, MMS is on the bid or vendor list of 104 of them; some school districts do not have bid or vendor lists. MMS has been the resource for hundreds of TN schools, with the number growing daily.

Multi-Media Solutions, Inc. is a 15 year old design and integration company offering audio visual technology solutions for commercial, industrial, education and government markets. MMS is a member of the national USAV Group consortium, and has recently been awarded a GSA contract for a comprehensive array of audio visual technology and components. MMS’s corporate headquarters are in Alcoa, with an additional sales office in Brentwood, TN.
