The Energy of Movement Captured in New Art Exhibit
Publish Date : 12/10/2004 5:14:00 PM   Source : Culture and Community News

Joe Chelsa, art professor at St. Louis Community College at Meramec, juried the artwork for this exhibit. Sculptor Eric Schmidt’s clay creations will be featured in Gallery III.

“On the Move” gives artists the opportunity to explore the force of energy in sculpture. The artists chosen for this exhibit are Mark Fisher, Marguerite Garth, Jacob Hauck, Walter Hauck, Donald Horstman, Robert Michelmann, Ralph Rollins, Kevin Trobaugh, Kay Wood and M. J. Goerke.

Juror Joe Chelsa, professor of sculpture and design at Meramec, is an affiliate of the National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts, the International Sculpture Center and the St. Louis Artists Guild.

Eric Schmidt received the “Going Solo” award for his work in the Foundry’s “Over/Under” exhibit. Schmidt’s clay sculptures will fill Gallery III. Schmidt studied under world-renowned ceramic artist Don Reitz. Currently, he divides his time between his home studio and his pottery studio at the Foundry.

The Foundry Art Centre is a fine arts gallery overlooking the Missouri River at 520 North Main Center, in the Frenchtown district of Historic St. Charles. The Foundry features a Smithsonian-caliber art gallery hosting juried exhibitions plus 20 working artist studios where visitors can watch the creative process and buy art directly from the artists. This nonprofit organization also provides community meeting rooms, event space and a children’s art gallery. Hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. and Sunday from noon until 4 p.m. Admission is free, but donations are welcome. For more information, call (636) 255-0270 or visit www.foundryartcentre.org.
