Three Common Errors That Prevent Bilingual Students from Achieving
Publish Date : 12/11/2004 10:52:00 AM Source : Culture and Community News
“The key to teaching bilingual students is pointing out the eight parts of English and understanding how difficult English is to learn,” said Sun Ho Lee. “I’ve been in the shoes of my students and this firsthand experience has helped me create exercises and lessons that effectively teach my students. I’ve compiled my method of teaching into my book, Higher Standard Writing in English.”
Higher Standard Writing in English prepares students whose native tongue is not English for the English Regents Examination and the College Writing Test. The key to Sun Ho Lee’s study guide is accredited to its structure that is simple and direct, which is easier for bilingual students to follow and understand. Higher Standard Writing in English has Chinese character interpretation, found in the vocabulary section of every chapter, which is tailored towards Chinese immigrants. Sun Ho Lee uncovers the three common structural mistakes that bilingual students make in the essay portion of these two tests, which prevent them from passing.
Bilingual students who recognize the standard and command writing skills used in the English language are able to express and communicate at a much higher level. Students who lack this knowledge could be held back from achieving a higher level of education and living the “American Dream”.
