Islamabad, Nov 27 (IANS) Pakistan Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz Saturday said he believed in retaining minimum nuclear and missile deterrence as the corner stone of the country's national security policy.
The country's security would remain his government's highest priority, Aziz said after a visit to Strategic Plans Division, the secretariat of the National Command Authority, where he was briefed on the nuclear programme, Online news agency reports.
He said that as a responsible, declared and acknowledged nuclear power, Pakistan would continue to play a positive role in international efforts aimed at non-proliferation.
Aziz expressed satisfaction with the effectiveness of the command and control structures of its nuclear capability.
The prime minister said the structures, which have now matured since being in place for the last five years, were well conceived and elaborate.
