Mintz, Levin, Cohn, Ferris, Glovsky and Popeo, P.C. announced that Bruce Metge, former general counsel of Laurel, MD-based Digex, Incorporated, has rejoined the firm's Washington office to concentrate on public company compliance matters and technology sourcing agreements.
Mr. Metge was Digex's first general counsel after it became publicly traded in 1999. The company's managed hosting business is at the leading edge of technology outsourcing, and manages the sites of several hundred of the world's leading businesses. Mr. Metge managed the legal affairs of Digex through the 2000 sale of its majority shareholder to WorldCom, the WorldCom bankruptcy, and the 2003 Digex' public shareholders' acceptance of a tender offer by WorldCom/MCI.
Mr. Metge spent his first years as an antitrust lawyer in Washington, followed by almost 15 years at Mintz Levin in its Boston and Washington offices. During that time he represented a wide range of companies in various industries including telecommunications, technology, biotech, consumer products and venture capital.
"I am delighted to return to Mintz Levin," Metge commented. "It has always been a very customer-centric firm, and the firm's growth in intellectual property expertise and its expansion into New York, London, Reston and Los Angeles should make a wonderful synergy with what we did at Digex. I am quite excited about how we should be able to help companies in today's rapidly evolving legal environment."
"Bruce has an outstanding depth of experience handling numerous corporate compliance, transactional, litigation and general business matters and we are pleased to welcome him back to the firm," said Bruce Sokler, a member of the firm's Washington office and Manager of the Federal Section.
Mr. Metge earned a B.A. in public policy from Duke University, magna cum laude, and a J.D. from Northwestern University School of Law. In his spare time, Mr. Metge is a nationally ranked triathlete.
