A week after the abduction of two National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) officials, the federal home ministry has assured help to Bihar in tracing them.
The assurance came following a request by union Rural Development Minister Raghuvansh Prasad Singh.
Singh is worried, as it was he who persuaded the NHPC to take up road construction in rural Bihar and guaranteed protection to officials of the corporation.
Armed criminals kidnapped NHPC general manager T. Mandal and chief engineer K. Singh in Vaishali district Friday. Both were engaged in survey work for construction of rural roads.
A ransom of Rs.50 million ($1 million) each has been demanded for their release.
Police had not only raided places in several districts of Bihar but also in four districts of neighbouring Uttar Pradesh in connection with the abduction.
Bihar Police with the help of their Uttar Pradesh counterparts are targeting suspected gangs. But so far there have been few clues.
