The Cities of Alameda and San Leandro will hold a joint Town Hall Meeting to discuss a casino being proposed by the Koi Indian Nation for the Oakland Airport Business Park, located immediately adjacent to the Oakland International Airport at Pardee Drive and Swan Way. The meeting will be held at the Grandview Pavilion, located at 300 Island Drive in Alameda, starting at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 14, 2004.
The meeting will provide an opportunity for Alameda and San Leandro community members to hear about the proposed casino and express any concerns, including issues related to traffic, environmental impacts, socio-economic impacts, police and fire services and other public safety concerns.
The preliminary proposal put forward by the Koi Nation includes a 250,000 square foot, "Las Vegas" style casino with card games and 2,000 slot machines. The proposal also includes $10.7 million in annual payments to the City of Oakland from the Koi Nation for public safety and traffic mitigation programs but does not currently address traffic impacts or other concerns in neighboring communities.
Koi Nation representatives will give a brief overview of the casino proposal at the meeting, and plenty of time will then be given for community questions and comments. The feedback received will help direct City Council actions regarding the casino proposal. All Alameda and San Leandro community members are encouraged to attend. Those unable to attend are encouraged to comment via e-mail to manager@ci.alameda.ca.us using the subject line "Casino Comment" and including their city of residence.
