The infighting between the Congress and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) in Maharashtra is set to worsen with both taking a tough stance against each other in the biennial elections to 11 legislative council seats.
Both parties have been unable to arrive at an agreement for three seats, and are set to contest these for which elections are scheduled Nov 30.
The contentious seats are the Bhandara-Gondia Local Authorities Constituency, Nashik Division Graduates Constituency and Aurangabad Division Teachers Constituency.
The Congress, which holds the Bhandara-Gondia constituency, has replaced its representative Gopaldas Agarwal with Bhaurao Tumsare.
Rajendra Jain is the NCP candidate. The third candidate is Bharatiya Janata Party's Brahmanand Karanjekar.
Incidentally, the Shiv Sena and BJP are pitted against each other in the Amravati Division Graduates Constituency and Nanded Local Authorities Constituency.
The Congress and NCP are not contesting the Amravati constituency, preferring to support outgoing representative B.T. Deshmukh, who is seeking re-election as an Independent.
Advocate Anil Kale is the Shiv Sena nominee while Balwant Pande is from BJP.
The Congress and NCP have been hurling charges against each other ever since the two parties fought and won the Maharashtra assembly polls.
