The Chinese sky will form the backdrop of a number of astronomical spectacles this month, reports Xinhuanet.
Astronomers at the Chinese University of Science and Technology here said that Jupiter will overlap the crescent moon Tuesday - the closest rendezvous for the two bodies in years.
On Dec 10, the crescent moon will overlap Venus and Mars.
China will also be the ideal place to observe the Dec 7-17 Geminids meteor shower. The shower will peak Dec 14, when nearly 120 meteors will be visible hourly.
Stargazers may be able to see with naked eyes the surface of Mercury for the last two days of the month when the planet lies to the west of the sun.
The best time to view this phenomenon will be 30 to 50 minutes before dawn.
