An eight-year-girl from India and five others were killed in a highway smash in southern Nepal Tuesday when a truck rammed into their bus.
Sujata Gupta, whose family came from Sitamarhi district in Bihar, was the only victim of the smash who could be identified so far. It is feared there could be other Indian casualties.
Five people died on the spot when a loaded truck hit the bus, headed for Mahendra Nagar from the border district of Birgunj. The accident occurred at Manahari town in Makwanpur district.
Over 30 passengers were injured in the accident, 16 of them seriously, the Kathmandu-based private radio channel Himalayan Broadcasting Corporation reported Tuesday.
A sixth victim died on the way to hospital. Nepal's highways have been hitting the headlines frequently for accidents, compelling the government to set up a team to probe into the reasons behind them and to recommend ways to prevent road disasters.
