Four people were arrested and remanded to two days in police custody Wednesday on charges of attacking the residence of a rebel leader of the Shiv Sena, Ramesh Prabhoo.
In a statement Wednesday, police said the four were being probed for being part of a mob that took part in the attack on Monday.
Prabhoo had earned the ire of Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray by contesting the October assembly elections as an independent. He had polled more than 40,000 votes, ensuring the defeat of Shiv Sena candidate Vinayak Raut.
Police said four vehicles belonging to Prabhoo, a general practitioner, were destroyed by the 30-strong mob.
Prabhoo, who is recovering from malaria, was not injured since he was in the upper floors of his building. The activists did not attempt to enter the premises, police said.
Prabhoo was once the personal doctor of Bal Thackeray.
