A landslide here Wednesday killed six children and injured three.
The mishap occurred around 1.00 p.m. in the city's Asarwa locality when a mound of loose earth besides a lake under construction collapsed on a group of children playing nearby.
The children in the age group of five to 12 years belonged to families of the labourers.
Fire brigade authorities rushed in for rescue work.
While three children could be saved, six succumbed to death, K.S. Patel, Asarwa police station inspector, told IANS.
The three rescued children were rushed to the civil hospital. The condition of two was reported to be stable.
The local residents reacted sharply to the mishap and police had to resort to a mild baton charge to disperse them.
The construction of the lake by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has been continuing for the past four days.
Residents, who had opposed the plan, complained that the AMC did not provide precautionary arrangements at the site.
