The Haryana government Wednesday made it clear it would table again in the assembly two controversial bills that had been sent back by the governor.
Governor A.R. Kidwai returned the bills - relating to rural and urban local bodies - to the government recently as he did not approve of some of their proposals.
Finance Minister Sampat Singh said the government had sought legal opinion on the matter after the governor returned the bills and would table the bills in the assembly session that commenced Wednesday.
"In such a situation when bills are again tabled in the assembly after receiving them back from the governor, the assembly can pass them and the governor would have to give his consent," Sampat Singh said.
Kidwai had returned the bills after opposition parties objected to a move by the government of Om Prakash Chautala to advance rural local bodies' elections ahead of the assembly elections scheduled in February.
