Union Minister of Commerce and Industry,
Kamal Nath, will be addressing the India Economic Summit 2004 on
6 December. He will be addressing the Plenary Session of the
Summit which has the theme "International Trade: The New Voice of
Emerging Markets".
According to press release, the Summit is being jointly organised
by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and the World
Economic Forum, with the Department of Industrial Policy and
Promotion (DIPP), Ministry of Commerce and Industry, as the
Summit partners, along with others.
Mandisi Mpahiwa, Minister of Trade and Industry of South Africa;
Rachid M. Rachid, Minister of Foreign Trade and Industry of Egypt
and Supachai Panitchpakdi, Director General of World Trade
Organisation (WTO) will be the other eminent participants at the
session to be addressed by Kamal Nath.
According to the Summit agenda outlining the thrust of the
session to be addressed by the Minister: "International trade
assumes a new definition as more and more nations move towards
borderless trade, entering into Free Trade Areas (FTAs) and
assigning MFN status to partner countries. How will this affect
the global trade scenario? What role do emerging markets have to
play in the international trade scenario in the next few years?
Can they come together as one strong voice?".(ANI)
