The New Internet, officially known as Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6), has been mandated by the U.S. Department of Defense, as well as by other countries, to replace the existing Internet standard (Internet Protocol version 4 or IPv4), which has been in effect since 1973. IPv6 promises vast improvements in security, multimedia transmission, and mobile and wireless online operations, as well as enabling the Internet-based networking of billions of addressable devices that will create many new commercial products and services. Details of this transition, and the many important challenges and opportunities that it holds, will be presented at the conference.
