Chief Minister Narendra Modi is in Hong Kong to invite prospective investors to Gujarat, one of India's most industrialised states.
A high-level delegation led by Modi is visiting Southeast Asian countries ahead of Vibrant Gujarat, an international investors' conference to be held in January.
The team reached Hong Kong Wednesday after a three-day visit to Singapore.
Modi made a detailed presentation Wednesday on the state's investment potential and opportunities before a group of 50 invitees at a banquet hosted by Indian Consul General Hari Gupta.
"Several prominent investors and industrialists expressed keen interest in participating in the forthcoming global investors' summit," an official release said.
The Chinese Manufacturers Association president Denie Yip announced they would send a delegation to the summit, the release added.
Modi told invitees that Gujarat, by taking initiatives in public sector reforms, had acquired capabilities to withstand competition from the developed countries of Asia.
"Offering direct investment opportunities to global investors and project promoters, Gujarat is catching their attention as the 21st century destination for investments. Gujarat has attained credibility as having the best investment climate," Modi said.
He added there was a striking similarity between Gujarat and Hong Kong in the textile, watch-making, fisheries and engineering industries.
Over 150 captains of trade and industry attended a dinner hosted by the Indian Chamber of Commerce and the Hong Kong chapter of Gujarati Samaj (the worldwide Gujarati association) in Modi's honour.
