Nepal and China began bilateral talks on border security here Monday.
The three-day talks are also likely to discuss Maoist insurgency in the wake of repeated incidents of the rebels being arrested by Chinese police in Tibet near the Nepal border while trying to smuggle in firearms and explosives to northern Nepal.
An earlier round of talks was held in Beijing this year. The Kathmandu meeting will also review the internal reports by both sides on border demarcation.
Li Qinguan, senior advisor on boundary issues at the Chinese ministry of foreign affairs, is leading the Chinese delegation while the Nepalese side is headed by Hira Bahadur Thapa, joint secretary at the ministry of foreign affairs.
China and Nepal signed a protocol in 1963 agreeing to have a joint inspection of the border shared by both once in every 10 years.
