Oommen Chandy is set to make his first trip abroad as Kerala's chief minister in March next year when he will be in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for three days.
Along with central ministers Jagdish Tytler and E. Ahamed, he will inaugurate "Samavayam 2005" in Dubai, a get together of non-resident Keralites (NRKs), said M.M. Hassan, chairman of Roots-Norka, an autonomous body under the state government.
The dates of the visit would be finalised later, Hassan told IANS.
The meeting would discuss welfare schemes and labour problems faced by NRKs and urge them to invest in Kerala. It would also mark the launch of a budget airlines connecting India to the Gulf.
Hassan, a former minister for NRKs in Kerala, was recently in the UAE making arrangements for Chandy's visit.
Indian ambassadors in the Gulf countries would meet Chandy, Tytler and Ahamed during the visit, Hassan said.
