Research And Markets: Dramatic Growth In Broadband

Dramatic growth in broadband subscriber scale in Western Europe and large shipment increases of VDSL central office equipment to Japan boosted Taiwanese DSL industry shipments in the third quarter of 2004.

As Internet access demand for multi-computer households takes off, service providers are upping the share of wireless ADSL router in their offerings, driving increases in shipment value and volume. DSL product lines are now moving toward high-end models. Looking ahead to the fourth quarter, the current phase of operator tenders has ended, but with mass production of ADSL2+ equipment delayed, operators have delayed their invitations for ADSL2+ tenders. Taiwanese shipment volume will consequently grow only marginally in the fourth quarter of 2004.
