Russia has offered to assist Bangladesh in expanding a power plant on the outskirts of this capital by adding two 210MW units.
The assurance came when an eight-member delegation led by Russian Federation Energy Minister Sergey A. Oganesyan called on Bangladesh Minister for Energy Iqbal Hassan Mahmud here Monday.
Russia had provided technical assistance for building a 210MW plant at the Shiddhirganj powerhouse that Bangladesh Prime Minister Khaleda Zia is to inaugurate Dec 18.
Forty percent of the power plants operated by the state run Bangladesh Power Development Board were set up with Russian technical assistance.
Bangladesh has a power production capacity of 3,500MW against a demand that varies from 3,000MW to 4000MW and which is increasing.
India's Tata group has proposed to set up a $2 billion 1,000MW power station.
