SakodaAuto India, a wholly owned automobile unit of the Volkswagen Group, Wednesday said it might increase prices of all its car models early next year due to the introduction of new fuel emission norms.
The price increase will be across the entire range of cars of Skoda in the market -- Superb, L&K, RS, Rider, Elegance, Automatic and Ambiente -- and will come into effect from January.
"At Skoda it has been our constant endeavour to comply with international norms especially when it concerns the environment," said Imran Hassen, managing director of SkodaAuto India.
"We are therefore considering a move to increase the prices due to the Euro III norms coming into effect next year. The price rise will be impacted by the fact that there has been an increase in input costs," he said.
"The last price hike on Skoda cars was undertaken in early 2004. Since then we have not passed any additional cost to the customer and even adjusted the possible price hike after the July budget within our costs."
SkodaAuto India has been operating in India since 2001 as a subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, one of Europe's premium automobile manufacturers. It has set up a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Maharashtra.
It has a network of 36 dealerships across the country and has sold over 14,500 units since 2001.
