Space Micro Inc. has been selected by PRT, Fallbrook, CA as a subcontractor for their Proton 100K radiation hardened space computer. The Proton 100K will be the platform for investigation of radiation-induced failures in space. This experiment is named Microelectronics Shielding Test Instrument (MISTI). This effort is being partially supported by the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) under a Phase II SBIR contract. This work will culminate in a development board that can monitor radiation degradation and effects of microelectronics in space. This board must be hardened to both the total ionizing dose and the single event effects in space orbits. The goal is to enable increased use of commercial logic, memory, and processors in the worldwide satellite industry
The Proton 100K Single Board Computer (SBC) serves as the core processor to monitor and report on the ability of various shielding configurations for FPGAs” noted David Czajkowski, COO of Space Micro.
“We are very pleased to have the opportunity to partner with PRT to design this significant space IC shielding experiment, said David J. Strobel, President of Space Micro. “We believe this program is an important step in gaining an in depth understanding of interaction of space radiation with materials.”
MISTI will incorporate Space Micro’s rad hard design technologies including TTMR and H-core, which mitigate radiation induced errors in space.
