Swiss Defence Minister Samuel Schmid met his Indian counterpart Pranab Mukherjee here Monday to discuss military cooperation, the regional and global security environment and international terrorism.
The discussions also covered the role of Indian forces deployed with UN peacekeeping missions and India gave information about its expertise in high altitude equipment and medicine, a defence ministry spokesman said.
Schmid, who is set to take over as president of Switzerland next year, arrived here Saturday on a six-day visit to India. He is leading a seven-member delegation.
He will visit the Indian Military Academy in Dehradun, the Western Naval Command in Mumbai and the National Defence Academy in Khadakvasla before returning home.
The Swiss delegation will also visit the Taj Mahal at Agra.
On his arrival at the defence ministry, Schmid was welcomed by Mukherjee and presented a ceremonial inter-services guard of honour.
In recent years, Switzerland has emerged as a supplier of specialised equipment for Indian forces deployed at high altitudes, like the Siachen glacier, the world's highest battlefield.
