Tahoe Winter Blue Adventure Race Takes Place January 8, 2005

The first annual Tahoe Winter Blue Adventure Race takes place at Northstar-at-Tahoe on January 8th, 2005. Modeled after the extremely successful summer series, the Tahoe Winter Blue Adventure Race is a multi-sport event in which teams participate and compete in activities including; backcountry skiing, snow shoeing, orienteering and map & compass skills. The race is designed so that participating teams usually finish within 4 to 7 hours. The course challenges seasoned racers, but also offers those new to the sport the opportunity to experience and compete in adventure racing.
Northstar-at-Tahoe, the location of the Tahoe Winter Blue, plans to open up new backcountry area for the event. Teams will be required to race through various terrain and check-in at several points throughout the course. The order in which the teams choose to complete the check-points is one of the key factors in determining their success. Adventure racing is not only a physical sport, but requires mental planning and strategizing. Topographical maps, compass work and navigational skills play an important part.
   
Resort employees, ski patrol members and local ski/outdoor shop employees are encouraged to enter. A portion of their entry fees will go toward an area non-profit cause.
