WHO: The UNCA ‘Citizen of the World Award’ will be shared by the actress Nicole Kidman for her 10 years service as a Goodwill Ambassador for Australian UNICEF, by Dr. Hans Blix the former head of the International Atomic Energy Agency and former head of the UN weapons inspectors in Iraq; and by Lakhdar Brahimi the top international diplomat who crafted the constitutional process that led to peaceful democratic elections in Afghanistan this year and who was the architect of the current interim government in Iraq.

The event will be presided by UN Secretary General Kofi Annan and by Tony Jenkins, president of the UN Correspondents Association.
The names of the journalists who will split the nearly $50,000 of prize money will be publicly revealed the night of the event.
In the audience will be dignitaries from the worlds of business, entertainment, journalism, diplomacy and academe, such as Dr. Ray Irani, CEO Occidental Petroleum and film director Sydney Pollack.
The menu has been designed by Stephen Lewandowski, Executive Chef at the world famous Tribeca Grill.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION: UNCA was founded in 1948 as a press club at the United Nations. The prestigious UNCA Annual Awards were established in 1995 and bring in hundred of entries from across the globe. A panel of judges, external journalists, journalism professors, diplomats, and peers selects the winners. The purpose of the awards is to encourage in depth coverage of the United Nations.
