Introducing the next evolution of the Aquilion(TM) family of computed tomography (CT) scanners, Toshiba America Medical Systems, Inc. (TAMS) today launched the works-in-progress Aquilion LB, a large-bore CT scanner designed specifically to meet clinical oncology needs. The Aquilion LB targeted features include the industry's largest bore at 90 cm with an 85 cm display field-of-view and a 70 cm acquired field-of-view to better assist oncologists in the diagnosis of cancer and treatment planning.
The Aquilion LB will be showcased this week for healthcare professionals at the 90th Scientific Assembly and Annual Meeting of the Radiological Society of North America.
"Cancer is the second leading cause of death among Americans, and Toshiba is addressing the clinical needs of the U.S. oncology market with the introduction of the Aquilion LB CT scanner," said Doug Ryan, director, CT Business Unit, Toshiba America Medical Systems, Inc. "Featuring Toshiba's award-winning multi-slice CT, Quantum Detector technology, and the industry's largest bore and field-of-view, the Aquilion LB is sure to make an impact on how CT is used in the diagnosis and treatment of various types of cancers."
Advanced Quantum Detector and CT Simulation Workstation
At the heart of the Aquilion LB is the Quantum multi-row CT detector, the most sophisticated CT detector commercially available providing high-speed, high-resolution imaging with the lowest noise. The Quantum detector enables the Aquilion CT scanners to acquire image slice thickness of 0.5 mm.
With the industry's best resolution, the Quantum detector improves measurement accuracy and makes scans more useful for quantitative treatment planning and calculation of volume. The Quantum detector design also enables minimal dose due to Toshiba's use of highly efficient ceramic material. This material allows for the lowest noise and highest dose efficiency available on the market, which is reflected in the outstanding low-contrast performance of the Aquilion CT scanners.
In addition to the industry's largest bore measuring 90 cm, the Aquilion LB features a new table design making the system more versatile and capable of imaging almost every patient type and profile.
