Unicef may stop funding the anti-polio campaign in Pakistan's Sindh province after reports that funds have been misappropriated and that there is no coordination between doctors and the people.
Unicef representatives are said to be unsatisfied with the performance of the provincial health department and doctors as 24 fresh cases of polio have been reported from Sindh despite millions of rupees having been spent on administering polio drops.
Sindh health chief Hadi Bux Jatoi confirmed that Unicef might stop funding the polio campaign if progress was not made and the people failed to cooperate with the health department, The News reported Tuesday.
Five vaccinators and two doctors were suspended Monday.
The vaccinators had prepared polio reports at their homes instead of going into the field to administer polio drops, while two doctors failed to cooperate with the authorities in the anti-polio campaign.
