Ken Jennings, a software engineer from Salt Lake City, has shattered records on the TV game show "Jeopardy!" His run began June 2, interrupted by several special theme weeks. A look at Jennings' streak:
Consecutive shows as winner: 73.
Money won on show aired Friday: $31,600.
Money won so far: $2,491,700.
Perspective: At the start of its 20th season last fall, "Jeopardy!" changed its longtime rule that said a champion must leave after five straight wins. Now a player stays until losing. Jennings has set the record for most money ever won by a game show contestant.
Final Jeopardy: The category was "19th Century U.S. History." The clue: "Of the five times Congress has declared war, the three during the 19th Century were against these three nations." Jennings had correctly answered Spain, Mexico and Britain, but then crossed out the latter and wrote Confederate States of America. He lost $9,200.
