Director Mike Leigh's "Vera Drake", a tale about a back-street abortionist in 1950s England, has won six prizes at the British Independent Film Awards.
"Vera Drake" was Tuesday named best in the categories of film, production and director, the Guardian reported.
Cast members also won awards for best actor (Phil Davis), best actress (Imelda Staunton) and best supporting actor (Eddie Marsan).
Earlier, Leigh's film won the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival. Imelda Staunton, who won the best actress award in Venice, has been tipped for an Oscar nomination for her performance as "Vera..."
Other winners included South Korean director Chan-wook Park, whose film "Oldboy" beat Michael Moore's "Fahrenheit 9/11" as the best foreign film. The horror comedy "Shaun of the Dead" won for best screenplay.
A member of the music band So Solid Crew, Ashley Walters aka Asher D, who was once jailed for possession of a loaded gun, won the most promising newcomer award for his role in "Bullet Boy".
