For families, summer vacation means a much deserved break from school, work and the routines of daily life. Located on the shores of Lake Champlain in Vergennes, Vermont, the Basin Harbor Club offers a family vacation designed to make the most of those precious days away with the Ultimate Family Getaway package, starting the minute you step into your car.
"From swimming in the lake, to sandcastle contests and ice cream socials, the challenge for families is in choosing what to do each day," said Pennie Beach, owner of Basin Harbor, "This package takes everything we have to offer families and bundles it together for a truly hassle free vacation. We even help to alleviate the 'are we there yet' questions coming from the back seat with our Travel Time Kit mailed in advance to each child."
The Travel Time Kit is a child-size suit case filled with trivia, fun activities and healthy treats for the car ride to Basin Harbor. Mailed in advance to each child on the plan, the personalized suitcase arrives with Basin Harbor themed crosswords, an on-the-road scavenger hunt, bottled water, crayons and paper, and snacks, among other items.
The Ultimate Family Getaway package includes a two-night stay in one of Basin Harbor's lakeside cottages, breakfast and dinner daily, tickets to the Lake Champlain Maritime Museum and Vermont Teddy Bear, a scavenger hunt, two hours of babysitting, Travel Time Kit, and a choice of putting clinic, tennis clinic or a boat cruise.
Guests of the plan are automatically enrolled in Basin Harbor's Children's Program, offering a summer camp atmosphere filled with activities and special events. Comprised of three parts - morning camp, afternoon activities, and evening dinner events, kids will enjoy swimming, arts and crafts, field trips, cookouts, sports, games, and hikes among many other activities.
Children's camps are organized by age, starting with Champ's Camp for 3-5 year olds, all the way up to the Totally Teens program for ages 15 and older featuring day long hikes, mountain bike treks, and overnight camping trips. New this season, Basin Harbor will also be offering daycare at an additional charge for children aged 6 months to 3 years.
Older kids looking to get a jump start on their resumes can participate in the Resort's new Junior Staff program, which invites youth 15 years and older to work side by side with seasoned hospitality professionals and learn the ins and outs of running a Resort. Junior Staff positions include bellhop, gardener, camp counselor, boat captain, and waiter, among others.
The Ultimate Family Getaway package starts at $595 per night, and is available during non-peak, non-holiday times. Please visit www.basinharbor.com or call 1-800-622-4000 for more information or to make a reservation.
Basin Harbor Club was established in 1886 by Ardelia Beach and has remained family owned for 120 years. Today, guests are greeted by fourth generation hosts, Pennie Beach and Robert H. Beach, Jr. Originally a 225-acre working farm catering to summer boarders, the resort has expanded to cover 700 acres of Vermont's most pristine land along the shores of Lake Champlain, encompassing the main lodge, cottages, a private golf course, spectacular gardens, a 3,200 foot grass airstrip, and the Lake Champlain Maritime Museum--an organization dedicated to preserving and sharing the history of Lake Champlain.
