For decades, Niagara Falls has been known for honeymoons and family-friendly fun, but this popular Canada destination has another side -- an adventurous one. From dare devil shows to whitewater rapids, visitors looking for a real thrill find plenty of Niagara attractions to satisfy their heart-stopping desires. This summer, an adventurous Niagara vacation starts with the Jay Cochrane Skywalk at Skylon Tower. Through September 3, Cochrane will make two daily walks between two 20-story towers at Skylon Tower, Fallsview -- a walk of over 1000 feet on a high wire.
Cochrane, known also as the "Prince of Air," walks the high wire at 4 p.m. and 8 p.m., seven days per week, and when he's done he will have walked over 15 miles and spent almost three full days overlooking Niagara Falls. After his walk, Cochrane makes a personal appearance and signs autographs in the Skylon Tower lobby.
For those who want to go to great heights themselves on a Niagara getaway, there are options aplenty. Several different companies offer Niagara Falls helicopter tours, giving visitors a new perspective on the beauty of the region along with a stomach-churning charge. And the Skylon Tower Observation Deck rises 775 feet above the Falls with visibility up to 80 miles and indoor/outdoor access. Getting there is equally fun on the "Yellow Bug" Elevators that whisk visitors up over Niagara in just 52 seconds.
Water lovers love a Niagara vacation with Whirlpool Jet Boat Tours, available from April through October. The boat tour travels up river into the Niagara Gorge with 200-foot walls, then makes it way into the famous whirlpool and down through Devils Hole Rapids. The one-hour Whirlpool Jet Boat Tours are a wet and wild Niagara adventure.
Every night in Niagara, adventurers enjoy the evening fireworks display over the Falls -- an appropriately exciting nightcap after a day partaking in the most thrilling of Niagara attractions.
