Leveraging past experiences, participating panelists will focus the discussions on the relevance of loss prevention planning, disaster preparedness, response and recovery activities -- while offering attendees key precautionary steps that can aid in protecting important symbols of our cultural heritage. The discussions will be held, Friday December 8, 2006, 9:30 - 11:30 a.m at the Delano Hotel, 1685 Collins Avenue, Miami Beach. Foreword will be given by both Christiane Fischer, CEO, AXA Art US and Kevin Russell, Executive Vice President of NetJets. Panelists include. Heather Becker, CEO, The Chicago Conservation Center Rustin Levenson, Painting Conservator, Florida Javier Mora, Private Collector, Florida Vivian Ebersman, Director Art Expertise, AXA Art US will moderate the discussion About Heather Becker, CEO, The Chicago Conservation Center Heather Becker is an artist, author, historian, educator and entrepreneur. Becker studied painting and art history at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and the International School of Art in Italy. She has exhibited her figurative oil paintings nationally and in Europe for over a decade. Becker entered the field of art preservation as an extension of her painting career. In 1989 she developed a national business plan for The Chicago Conservation Center, Inc. which has become one of the largest private art conservation facilities in the country. Becker purchased The Center from the founder in August 2003. Throughout her career, Heather Becker has educated various industries on the technological advancement of art conservation and the preservation of historical works of art throughout the country. In an effort to bring art back into public education, Becker co-founded the largest mural preservation project in the country's history, restoring hundreds of early twentieth century murals in Chicago. In 2004 Becker was awarded "Small Business Person of the Year" for the State of Illinois by the Small Business Association (SBA). In 2006 she was elected to the Board of The Chicago Network and is youngest member in the organization. She recently wrote a book on Chicago murals and art preservation entitled, Art for the People. About Rustin Levenson, Painting Conservator, Florida Rustin Levenson is president of Rustin Levenson Art Conservation Associates. She received her conservation training at Harvard University's Fogg Art Museum and worked at the National Gallery of Canada and the Metropolitan Museum of Art before beginning a private conservation practice. Rustin also co-wrote the book, Seeing Through Paintings (Yale University Press, 2000), that describes how to use the physical evidence in paintings to reach art historical conclusions. The College Art Association and Heritage Preservation awarded the book a prize for distinction in scholarship. It is the goal of conservators, like Rustin, to shepherd the physical artifacts of our culture and preserve them for future generations.
