I am an investor, and I like investing since it is a cash machine if managed well. Like most of you, I keep tracking my portfolio on a regular basis. It eases me to know my asset value is growing, and if something happens to my holdings, I need to know what causes it and make timely actions. To be able to retire at age 50, I need to be on top of my assets. Sound and timely management is one way to be sure that Warren’s words are followed:
Rule No. 1, Never lose money.
Rule No. 2,
remember rule No. 1.
I like to use internet to get live quotes and headlines. The internet technology makes investing so much easy and fun for all of us. However, being a constant traveler, I found it helpless when I lost hold of my asset value. The thought that I am detached from my investment drove me nuts, until I found now I can keep doing it with my handhelds, thanks to modern information and communication technology.
I have a Nokia S60s and Blackberry Pearl. I've used many cell-phone based stock portfolio management software before. Some of them lacked tracking functionality; some of them were poor at graphic features. More importantly, they normally do not offer multi-exchange coverage. Since I invest in both US and European stock markets, I really found it frustrating switching between applications to know how much my stock values now on different exchanges. The followings are what I have been searching for in a great stock portfolio tracking software, and eventually I found one …
1. Live (rare and extremely high service fee) or 15-minute delayed quotes (more often and usually much lower monthly fee or even free)
2. Handy portfolio management: Ability to create and manage your own portfolios, track the market value for individual stocks and whole portfolio
3. A comprehensive range of stock daily trading information, such as latest quote, volume, high/low, 52-weeks range, change, etc.
4. East to use and operate (Hey, I am not an IT savvy)
5. Adaptable feature that helps to fit in different size of screens
6. Multi-exchange coverage (For me, US, CA, and UK)
7. Headline and news coverage for market and individual stock
8. Charts that can show the price history (1-day, 5-day, 1-year etc.)
Looking at the list, that is a lot, and you may have more. But the good news is that I found one meets all my needs recently. It is MobFinance produced by iMobLife Co. I ran across it at the beginning of this year while it was featured in Handango’s New Year Financial Software Package. MobFinance provides a very comprehensive range of trading information for stocks traded on 9 US markets and 16 EU markets. iMobLife also offers a service that allows you to build your own version of MobFinance by selecting from 56 exchanges worldwide. The trading data is 10-15 minutes delayed but free for now. Great usability and very easy to handle. It has pretty interfaces and adaptable graphic features. Live news feeds and charting features are also available. Technical features include PROXY and WAP support to meet the needs of users under different networks.
MobFinance is the best stock portfolio management software I have used. It supports both Symbian and Blackbrry, so I have one on my Nokia and one on BB. I have been using it for 6 months and really loved it. iMobLife provides very good customer service, my questions were responded in a timely manner and their tech team was very patient and professional. Another good thing about iMobLife’s MobFinance is they are keeping enhancing their products and all upgrades are free to current users (at least in 2007).
