The Philadelphia Water Department provides drinking water to approximately 1.7 million people in Philadelphia and parts of Lower Bucks County. Its three water treatment plants process a combined average of 270 million gallons of water a day, withdrawing water from the Delaware and Schuylkill Rivers for treatment. The treated water is then distributed through nearly 3,300 miles of water mains.
