The
singing sensation Harbhajan Mann, who had a hit last year with
Oye Hoye is all set to hit the bull's eye with Lala lala Lala.
This too is in the tradition of melodious and zesty Punjabi music
for which Mann is famous. The track of his new album has the pace
to make one shake a leg. The lyrics are perfect for humming with
an eyecatching video. The music video features three models who
add touch of glamour. It is differently conceived wtih a unique
set-up and location wtih a story line to make it absorbing. The
concept is very current--about internet!
The
latest album has a unique blend of traditional Punjabi and modern
music with meaningful lyrics. It is a collection of eight tracks
reflecting various moods like romantic, sad, rhythmic, folkish
wtih songs like Chham Chham, Akhiyaan da Sawan, Sohniye Nee, Hal
Oye Rabba and Haye Mar Gaye.
Mann
is not new to fame. He admits frankly "it's my own exclusive
style of singing that gives me immense satisfaction and brings
happiness to my fans. I don't like to compare myself with others."
He left behind a comfortable life in Canada to come to India tocontinue
his passion for singing. It was in 1994 that he returned to Punjab
with ,the hope that his singing will click in his own country.
Though he did not have much grounding in gharana training, he
learnt under Karnail Singh Ji Paras of Bhatinda in 1978. For three
years he took training from Balbir Singh Bhangu and Hamid Ji in
Canada.
Harbhajan
started with Chithye ni Chithiye, he got recognition with his
runaway hit Oye Oye. Famous cinematographer Manmohan Singh has
helped to promote Mann. He says he is keen on doing film roles
or sing for movies. He has alreadysung for Sunny Deol.
He
is also working to promote his younger brother Gurusewak Mann's
career. He is encouraging him to work hard and establish himself
as a good pop singer.
Harbhajan
feels there is enough space for Indipop singers. Though Daler
Mehndi is the acknowledged Badshah of Bhangrapop, he has led to
a legion of new singers trying out their luck. T-series is promoting
thelatest Mann album in a big way with promos being aired on all
the music and entertainment channels.
Mann's
hobby is watching TV but not always the musical channels, but
the news channels. He feels the regional channels need to improve
in content and quality of production. There is not much of originality
with many programmes being dubbed from Hindi. He is not shy to
admit he enjoys the cartoon network, especially Popeye and Flintstone.
And he loves watching them with his children.
