Jasbir Jassi : More About Jassi @ Onlypunjab
For Jassi ,
Music and singing were second nature in his family. Ours was a joint family
and all of the children in the family were always competing to outclass each
other at singing the traditional jhalla. He was nostalgic about the
early morning practices with his harmonium in storeroom, scared to let his
father hear him or see him.
Jassis childhood was a happy and adventurous one born and bought up in a
typical town of Punjab. He was the most pampered and doted upon members of his
family. However his home environment was hardly conducive to the promotion of
music and creative arts, having an inborn dedication towards music and singing.
His belief was simple. More than catchy lyrics and technically-savvy music
videos, what really matters in a song is the melody. He made numerous attempts
to offer such melodious tunes, which people can play over and over again.
For Jassi each day and each moment is full of new discoveries in the field of
music. He has an unending quest for ways and means to take Punjabi music to each
nook and corner of the world. He wants to make Punjabi music so popular
that itll break all barriers of language, religion, countries and human
races.
In his childhood, Jassi got a lot of exposure to Punjabi folk-lore and classical
music from Lahore Radio.Jasbir Jassi was so passionate about music that he quit
engineering to study classical music. After his initial training under V.S.
Jolly, Jassi trained under the guidance of famed Sufiana musician, Puran Shah
Koti.
In 1989, he left his hometown of Gurdaspur and came to Patiala in search of a
career in music. In Patiala, he met Harpal Tiwana, a renowned theatre
personality and started out by singing and composing songs for stage shows. He
started lending his voice to several Punjabi films and remix albums such as 'Balle
Balbiro Balle'. Then came the saucy video 'Dil Le Gayee' in 1998, he gave the
millenniums first hit song "KUDI-KUDI" followed by more successful
numbers " NISHANI YAAR DI" but all this is behind him and Jassi is
inspired to reach greats highs.
Biggest
influence in his life has been his mentor and spiritual guru Baba Kashmira
Singh Ji who has inspired him to look beyond all horizons and reach the
pinnacle of perfection in his field.
