Goa is an idyllic, largely coastal state in India which has many stunning beaches. The Big Chill will be held on Asvem beach, located in Nothern Goa. This area is known for its turtle nesting. The rare Olive Ridley turtles lay their eggs here. A group of dedicated volunteers guard the nest and ensure the newly hatched turtles make their way safely into sea. The food in this area is also scrumptious, with the Goan fish curry being a particular local favourite. Besides local food, there is also a variety of international cuisine. There is something for everyone, regardless of taste. Goa looks set to be a promising venue for the Big Chill festival.
The two day festival will feature acts such as Coldcut, Norman Jay, The Bays, Hexstatic, Sheila Chandra, Shri, Mad Professor and Mixmaster Morris. There will be one main live stage, a smaller DJ bar sound system as well as a live performance stage. There will also be a special area known as Body Soul, where you can experience traditional Indian healing therapy. In addition, the Art Trail will feature the works of various local and foreign artists. The festival will start after noon and carry on til midnight on both Saturday and Sunday. It is estimated that about five thousand people will attend the festival.
The organizers have mentioned that one of their main focus is to ensure the festival is both environmentally-friendly and drug-free. A portion of the profits have been pledged to India's AIDS/HIV projects. Tickets are reasonably priced, and it is sure to be an awesome and memorable event for all involved.
