Fawnskin Festival Is Where Precious Pets Get A Blessing
Publish Date : 7/21/2004 1:02:00 PM   Source : Onlypunjab.com Travel
Join the Third Annual Fawnskin Festival on July 25, 2004. Opening ceremonies begin at 9am followed by the Precious Pet Parade and an Animal Blessing. The festival will be held at the Moose Lodge Park, 39211 Northshore Drive in Fawnskin, California.
This year the theme is “A Community in Action.” The idea is timely following the Old Fire evacuation and this year’s extreme fire threat, according to organizers, who plan educational opportunities along with good old-fashioned fun.

The small town of Fawnskin is nestled away on the edge of the forest in the Big Bear Valley. The festivities begin with a color guard presentation. Serena Saunders will sing the “Star Spangled Banner."

The Fawnskin Festival is celebrated in conjunction with the annual Old Miners Day events held throughout the Big Bear Valley. Fawnskin residents will march through town on July 24th in one of the shortest parades in the USA.

Spectators will then amble down the street to enjoy the Loggers Jubilee at a nearby historic site. The competition attracts competitors from all over the nation.

Many prominent residents will appear at the festival on the 25th. Noel Blanc, son of Mel Blanc of Warner Bros. fame, will greet children and perform on stage in the afternoon. Diana L. Guerrero will oversee the animal blessing in the morning.

Guerrero is the author of, “What Animals Can Teach Us about Spirituality.” Released in November of 2003, the book just went into a second printing and the community is buzzing with excitement over it. Her next book, about animal blessings, will be released in 2006.

She said, “I love this community. The camaraderie, humor, and genuine nature of the residents are treasures. If you want to have a fun family day in a beautiful setting, come and experience this quaint little town event.”

Live entertainment will be provided throughout the day. Dave Graham of Damn Good Question, The Community Interfaith Choir, Wayne Galley, the Bear Valley Dandies, and the high school drama club are some of the entertainers scheduled.

Historians Tom Core and Bob Brown will reminisce during the “Good Old Days” fireside visit at the Gold Pan Restaurant.

Other events include an apple pie contest and an arts and crafts show. Fire Station No. 49 will hold an Open House showcasing the San Bernardino County Fire Education Mobile unit, Jaws of Life extraction and will provide activities for children.

The Big Bear Off Road Adventure Tours and the Bear Valley Search and Rescue Team will provide a climbing wall for the more adventurous. Other exhibitors include the Moonridge Zoo, Big Bear Area Regional Wastewater Agency, and the Bear Valley Fire Safe Council.

Admission is free and the Festival is open to the public. For more information on the Fawnskin Festival phone ET Russell at 800-255-8188 ext 80282.
